Offshore workers....Corrections: MOST offshore workers are the most competent people in the world. We have backgrounds in life-saving/first-aid; water survival - for God's sake we are trained to survive a helicopter crash then survival on the open sea on a 20 man raft and that's just the general training to go offshore. Oh, I forgot fire-fighting. We do that also. I've been in the ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) industry since 2008. Still at this date and time if I go to an interview and tell them I'm a ROV Pilot-Technician they are like "Huh" and I have to explain and show them pictures and Videos. You didn't hear about ROVs during the Deepwater Horizon? Maybe you'll hear about them during this Titanic submersible event. ROV guys are some of the most underrated workers in the world when it comes to working on land! We are used to troubleshooting computers, hydraulic valves/pumps/hoses/etc....; we work with high voltage equipment around water! We terminate fiber optics on a rocking vessel sometimes. If we are not detail oriented and attention to detail we get to ride the lightning. We are drilled with safety -- paperwork, meetings, classes, musters, and test! We are at work from 2 weeks to sometimes up to 6 months and more! I haven't been away from home like that since I was in the military. Oh, and most ROV Pilot-Technicians are ex-military. At the end of the day, the whole workforce is sleeping on ROV guys trying to get back on land. It doesn't matter if you can't pay what we were making offshore. Most of us were in six figures salaries but after 10+ years some of us realize family is worth more than money. To all my ROV/Offshore personnel around the world I salute you!!!!
Share this to all the ROV personnel you know because at the end of the day we are all Super Tech Geeks!
If you have anything to add to this copy/paste/edit and Share! Everyone have a great day and stay safe!
